DYSSING MONADYS is set to prove the literary world wrong with a new festival for dyslexic story makers opening at The Troy Bar in Hoxton Street, on Monday 6 October - 24 November 2008, as part of Adult Dyslexia Awareness Week.

missfit productions, the engine behind the festival, believes that being diagnosed with dyslexia is no longer an embarrassment. DYSSING MONADYS encourages dyslexic practitioners to come out of the creative closet and prove that their dyslexia is a gift.
“Although people with dyslexia learn differently and struggle with ‘Left Brain’ activities, they are often, original storytellers.” Festival Director, Lennie Varvarides.

DYSSING MONADYS is working with over 20 dyslexic practitioners and aims to be a permanent, annual fixture in the literary scene. The festival boasts of 8 nights full of new writing for theatre, film and poetry by British and International makers. Spreading the word

My first point of call was my own university, so i used my whiely ways to convince them to let me right a mini feature for the student mag. Successful in my ploy it was printed just in time for the start of a new year. Let's hope we rope in some fresher's from King's College London.

I sent sent the press release to ten London based dyslexia organisations/companies which i found on the British Dyslexia Association website today. The list was only 12 companies long though so i may have missed something...I'll look into this.

ALEX'S FIRST BLOG EVER

Only 6 scheduled rehearshals to go. I am beginning to make sense of the production and I look forward to having a full cast this week.

My temptation with 'Larry' has been to play him as an angry, agressive patriarch who shouts a lot and looks menacing most of the time. As Lennie points out, this is too easy a characterisation and Larry is much more complex than that with a profoundly compassionate nature and a deep love for Sasha. He also seeks attention and reassurance from the women in his work environment and whilst being a charmer he has remained faithful to his wife although he reveals plans to 'stray' into infidelity.

Playing drunk is hard! The best drunk I have seen on film is Richard E Grant in 'Withnail and I': the balance between being audible and comprehensible but maintaining a credible drunk persona without hamming-it-up is a fine line to tread. Will I manage it? Only time in rehearshal will tell!

Directing Deception, Illusion and Nate!

Hi, my name is Amanda Guiseppi and I am directing Deception Illusion and Nate as part of the Dyssing Mondays festival. When I first heard about this festival, I thought it was a great idea for artists to embrace who they are. I really like the idea of it. My friend and playwright of D, I and Nate submitted this play and soon enough she was asking me to direct it. I was very excited as I am huge fan of her work. I have finally started rehearsals this week after a hard run of trying to find a cast. I am very pleased with the cast and am looking forward to what will come of all our hard work.

Side note: Regarding the technical side of our show, it relies heavily on lighting. I have now been in the Troy Bar a couple of times and see a huge challenge ahead of me. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for how we could light up the Troy Bar!!

I'm Lucy, the new presenter for the upcoming Dys(the)lexi festival.

As well as comparing Monday nights, I will be keeping you up to date with developments via this blog.

With preparations in full swing, my anticipation is mounting: some very exciting things are happening!

Tomorrow night I'm going to a rehearsal of Chocolate Sabotage written and directed by Lennie Varvarides.

LOOKING FOR DIRECTORS

So, there are these two play, one by a Russian Writer and one by this uk based writer. They both need directors, but not just any directors, and not the kind of director that likes to play it safe.

Key Word -Surprise. I knew this old guy in new york from a theatre co. called Black Moon - he said our role as performers was to discover. I say our role as storytellers is to surprise. Directors role is to paint a world were the two can live together.

Personally, I don't like safe - well, in my creative work at least. I like something else, something more, something a little unexpected. And that's what I am looking for in the people I work with. I want to be surprised, because surprises are what keeps us young and I am all about that - as my mates know :)

So, back to the story - I am looking for two directors who live in London and who like telling story's. Its that time again. Another festival. Another chance to produce new plays. Another year missfit keeps pushing, because missfit is the storytellers pedal stool. We love plays and actors and directors and we want to create a halfway house for them all....

Before missfit there was a)lostcreative.org and before that...well, who care what was before that. Probably just lennie in her bedroom talking to her dolls and pretending they could hear their next que.

Pretending is every child's privilege, but what we forget is that its something we never need to grow out of. missfit refuses to grow up.
